Pilgrims and Strangers Made for Another World...
"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world...Probably earthly pleasures were never made to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing. If that is so, I must take care, on the one hand, never to despise, or be unthankful for, these blessings, and on the other, never to mistake them for something else of which they are only a kind of copy, or echo, or mirage. I must keep alive in myself the desire for my true country, which I shall not find till after death; I must never let it get snowed under or turned aside; I must make it the main object of life to press on to that other country and to help others do the same." ~ C. S. Lewis (emphasis mine)
"These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them." ~ Hebrews 11:13-16

Reminds me of "The Last Battle" when everyone gets to Aslan's country, discovering that everything they knew on earth was but a copy of "the real thing." C.S. Lewis was quite the thinker!
I love the photograph as well. Beautiful sun rays!
Ahhh...yes, good point! However, Sam, lol...now you're getting me in the mood to read through our Narnia collection, as well as watch some of the movies, and they're *all* packed! :)
Thanks re: the photography...as you know, though, as best as one tries, the camera only begins to capture the full beauty and grandeur of some of the things God does in the sky. In real life, this completely took our breath away...probably a lot like the rainbow you took pics of.
Mrs. Kerr...Grace, Abbie and I have been re-reading all the Narnia books recently, on OH what precious gems are hidden in those little books! He captures so freshly and simply and beautifully Scriptural truths in his stories and characters...and they just hit home every time, no matter how many times I read them. I always come away from both books and movies with an almost aching longing for "Aslan's Country", and "Aslan" himself.
You know Hannah, he is one of those people that I would've so loved to have picked his theological brain...I think I could have chatted with him for hours. He definitely packed that series full of many rich truths. Now you've got me wanting to read those again...of course, you *always* do that with books! lol
He also has another series, a kind of science fiction Christian set. We have it, but I've never read them...however, I've heard by some that the series is even better than Narnia...hard to imagine, but that's the praises some of sung of it.
I think Luke had that series...not sure if he took it with him or not, but I might have to see if I can dig it up, because I've heard good things about it too!! Funny how I just think "Narnia" when I think of C.S. Lewis when he wrote so many other excellent books! :) Same with authors like Tolkien...their major works are what come to mind, and I don't often think to read beyond that. Oh and before I forget, have you seen the book "What I Learned in Narnia" by Doug Wilson? Michelle gave it to me for my birthday, and it's what motivated me to read through the series...because I wanted to have them all fresh in my mind before I read it! :) But I'll bet it would be one you'd enjoy too! Love you!
I have had the Tolkein set, I'm ashamed to admit, since *my* highschool years, and have yet to read it. I just don't have enough time to read all I'd love to read, imagine that! lol I have not seen Doug Wilson's book on Narnia, but now you have me curious! And truly, I do not need another book to add to my "to read" list. lol But as long as I'm breathing, I'm sure I'll be adding to it...us bibliophiles just can't help it. :)
We just bought the audio by Focus on the Family of The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. You're so right...he has a plethora of other good books...of which I have not read through near all of them.
We also just bought the movie made by BBC of him and his wife, C.S. Lewis Through the Shadowlands. We had the American version on VHS from years ago, but we read it was nothing like the British more accurate version. So we bought the BBC version at the same time as buying the audio of The Screwtape Letters...looking forward to watching it one night.
Right now I'm am still meandering through Middlemarch. It'd been several months since I'd read steadily on it, so about a week ago, I simply restarted it, since I couldn't remember some things. (I had been at chapter 17.) Oh well, I am back to there, again, as of today...yay! lol Love you!
